Clare Yard
Posted to History of the Peavine Railroad Facebook Group By Roy Hord, February 19, 2020. Description from post.

Thanks for adding me to this group. I grew up about one half mile from Clare Yard and spent a lot of time there in the '60s and '70s. My uncle was a Yard Master on the N&W. His name was Harry (mickey) Mulvaney. He passed about 5 years ago. I am in the process of scanning my slides so let's start out with a few featuring SD45 1776 in March and April of 1975. The first photo shows 1776 switching the yard at Clare. Apparently the yard crew just couldn't resist. The next photo shows a westbound train, probably 77, at the west end of Clare Yard. Finally, in March of 1975 the N&W Executive Train paid a visit to Cincinnati. We're between Newtown and the West End of Ancor siding. The special was running a little late so the dispatcher allowed the eastbound local to depart Clare. The local crew had a tank car of asphalt for Brewer which was a facing point switch for eastbounds. So, as they had probably done hundreds of times before, the local crew executed a "flying switch" to deliver the car. They then hustled into Ancor siding to wait for the special. Pretty gutsy railroading!
