1981 Batavia Train Derailment
Shared by Ryan Malott on facebook on January 31, 2021. Original from Clermont County Historical Society. Description from post.

You might want to get back on track, by coming to our OPEN HOUSE, Saturday, February 6th, from 1 - 4pm. Bring your questions and your curiosity! Also open in the same building is The Harmony Hill Museum. So, come to Williamsburg, 299 S. 3rd Street. About the photo, this happened in 1981. Does anyone have information about the Batavia Train Accident of 1981? I'd love to hear it. Thanks, Cindy

(from the comments, Ralph Flowers) I can remember this, the shifter or a work train crew was switching out camp cars at Batavia . Grass had grown over the rail and Engineer Lem I. Thompson could not stop because the engine wheels were sliding on the grass while going down hill. This was known as the "Loose Caboose Derailment"
