Category Description:
Anchor is the first location east of Clare where the daily Sardinia Turn will have work to do. Anhor features a grade crossing of Broadwell Road. The longest passing siding on the Cincinnati District is Anchor Siding, over 1.5 miles long. There is the potential for three railserved industries there, though as of 2023 none are currently used to my knowledge.
The rail served industries will all be represented in some way. Senco being the most obvious as this will be a four sided structure in the middle of the layout. Just like the real Senco, the siding will pass into the building where cases of fastening tools and supplies will be loaded to box cars.
Across the tracks from Senco will be Heekan Can. Now Heekan is an old, no longer used name. The company has had many names. I personally like the heritage of Heekan. I am only modeling the siding along the front edge of the layout. Load of scrap will be shipped out in gons, and loads of aluminum cans will be shipped by box cars.
The third industry will definitely not be served by the Sardinia Turn as I plan to use the siding for Evans Landscaping to recreate a real scene in Peavine History. In December 2015 (photo ID 289 below), the ex Burlington Silver Fountain was loaded on a flatcar and shipped off for restoration. My dad and I happened to catch the CCET crew pulling the car out of Heekan Can the Friday after Thanksgiving. The car was loaded and shipped out the next week.
