Devou Line Bridge Collapse
Posted to Facebook History of the Peavine Group Page January 2, 2019 by Roger Myers. Description from post
This unfortunate incident occurred on what had been the New Richmond branch of the Cincinnati and Eastern. It was sold in 1887 to W.P. Devou Jr. In the same reorganization of the C&E that saw it become the ON&W. It was run separately from the Peavine and according to most sources never was converted to standard gauge so it could not interchange with other lines. This partly led to its failure in 1899 and abandonment. The cost of recovering from the trestle collapse was one of the other nails in the coffin.
