Cincinnati, Portsmouth and Virginia Steam Engine

Posted to History of the Peavine Railroad Facebook Group by Chad Fannin, June 10, 2019. Description from post.
Cincinnati, Portsmouth & Virginia RR locomotive #12. Built by the New York Locomotive Works of Rome, NY and bought new in 1888 along with identical locomotive #13. Builders number 362, #12 was a 2-6-0 with 50” drivers and equipped with Stevenson valve gear. Weighing around 86,100 lbs, #12 was renumbered to #718 and classed O-22 when the N&W acquired it in 1903. Later she was renumbered N&W 2nd #531. Sold by the N&W in December 1913 to the Birmingham Rail & Locomotive Company. Not showing up well in this scan of the photo but cast into the steam valve above the cylinder it reads ”ROME N Y”. The N&W Historical Society has this photo in their collection giving credit to Norfolk Southern as the owner. I'm guessing NS may have the negative. The photo I have shown here is definitely a very old print that's made from a negative and is very clear with a hole punched in the top middle. Not sure where it was acquired from or exactly what year the photo itself was taken.
