Short Line Railroad Switching In America, Heavy Train On Steep Grade With 3 Unusual Locomotives CCET
|

Video posted to facebook on September 20, 2021. Description from post.
Railway switching on an American shortline railroad in Ohio and 3 classic EMD & GE locomotives pull a heavy train up a steep grade on Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET. This is a Norfolk Southern Railroad branch line in Ohio that is ex Norfolk & Western Railway and leased to CCET. This line has steep grades and is very curvy, thus, it is called the Peavine Line. It was rare for trains to have 3 locomotives although lately with business booming on the line it is starting to become normal. I caught a heavy train with loaded boxcars going up one of the steepest grades on the line. The boxcars are loaded with huge rolls of paper for Huhtamaki and there is also a covered hopper car for Mount Carmel Group. 3 classic locomotives are hard at work pulling the long train up the hill and across Summit Road in Batavia Township, Ohio. That is the money shot! However, before the train gets there, they did some switching at the bottom of the hill in Batavia. There is a long passing siding there that is used to store freight cars on. The train came from Clare Yard after swapping cars with Norfolk Southern. This video shows them switching the siding and going back and forth over Main Street in Batavia. I don't know how many cars were left on that siding but they still had a relatively long train that they took up the hill. My favorite part of this video is at about the 20:14 mark where we see the train come around a tight curve and coming up one of the steepest grades on the line. After that we see Chessie playing with Norfie for the first time followed by the slide show. As you know, Norfie is the kitten that someone dropped off at my farm and I have decided to adopt. I have several dogs and surprisingly they have accepted Norfie.
If you like the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad ( CCET ) and would like to see more of them, you are in luck son! I started a FaceBook group dedicated to this railroad that is called Cincinnati Eastern Railroad Fans. Check it out and join today! Other than my JawTooth page it is about the only place that you will find me on Facebook. I post pictures on there of CCET, answer any questions and a lot of other members also post things about CCET to that group. Like all of my accounts it is family friendly with no controversy.
CCET trains operate on 160.860 and rarely ever use an EOT. Trains normally operate Monday through Friday during regular business hours although they can operate any time that a customer needs a switch. CCET leases 69+ route miles of track from Norfolk Southern and has miles of sidings and storage tracks.
I filmed this train on Thursday, September 16, 2021. Here is a link to my FaceBook group that I started for it called Cincinnati Eastern Railroad Fans!
