Ex Amtrak Coach Pacific View sits on a siding at Ancor, OH.
Following comment was posted to FB as a reply to a picture by Christopher Edwards, August 19, 2017. Was pasted here to provide more information about the Pacific View.
It is owned by me/family business, Batavia & Ohio Railway Services.
The car is a former Union Pacific 10-6 sleeper. The car went to Amtrak on Day 1 in 1971. The car was one of the first Heritage Cars that were updated and equipped with H.E.P. the car ran as a sleeper until 1995/1996 when it was removed from service. In 1998 the car was rebuilt and updated as a Dorm Lounge. The updates included removing the 6 double bedrooms creating a lounge/luggage space area. Originally it was going to be a smokers lounge, but smoking was outlawed in the late 1990's on intercity trains. Besides the lounge there were 3 restrooms added and 2 showers.
The car was in service until late 2002 when there was a fire in the lounge. At that time Amtrak pulled the car from service and offered it for sale. I purchased the car in 2003 from Amtrak.
It has been a work in progress since then. It has been floating on the Peavine since I took possesion of the car in early Nov. 2003.
