In September of 1990, N&W Class J 4-8-4 #611 leads an excursion from Cincinnati to Portsmouth OH & return over NS's Peavine Line, sponsored by the Cincinnati Railroad Club. Unfortunately, during this trip, the locomotive would stall on Peebles Hill for 2 hours, due to problems with the Sanding System on the locomotive. For 2 hours, the 611's Crew hand sanded the rail, which helped with the locomotive getting traction to conquer the grade. From that day, until the end of the Steam program in 1994, these trips were to be ran with diesel assistance. While 611 is back under steam once again & now travels as a traveling exhibit for the VMT, the Peavine Line is out service East of Peebles, while the Section West of Peebles is owned by the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad.
