WESTERN OHIO ENGINE ROSTER
The engines are on the Western Ohio Peavine Division are kept in fairly permanent consist. They will hopefully have poor man keep alive connection to share power pickup between engines. The list below hightlights each consists and its primary purpose on the railroad.

RAILROAD ENGINE NUMBER ENGINE MODEL MANUFACTURER STATUS PRIMARY ASSIGNMENT
Western Ohio 15 EMD NW2 Broadway Limited Active Hillsboro Branch
This is the first engine painted in Western Ohio colors, and in the story of the WO, is the oldest remaining active engine in the fleet. The engine was originally painted when the Western Ohio was using a maroon and yellow scheme. The "Half O" scheme, along with the color switch to yellow and black was a few years off.

Because of the age of the engine, and the fact it is in it's original paint scheme, the engine is showing a lot of wear. The lettering and numbers are difficult to read, and the maroon paint that covers the body is dirty and peeling. But 15 is a work horse, diligently toiling on the easily overlooked Hillsboro branch shuttling cars between Sardinia and Hillsboro.

Sardinia Turn
120 and 125 are the stars of the Peavine. These engines are assigned to the daily Sardinia Turn. This train operates out of Clare Yard each morning. Running east to Sardinia, the turn switches several industries before running around the train. The return trip west is the busier half of the job, with a majority of industries on the west end of the Peavine being serviced by the westbound train.

Both the 120 and 125 are ex Southern Pacific engines, purchased at the same time. Both engines are painted in the modern Western Ohio "Half O" paint scheme in the bright yellow livery.

Daily Manifest
Engines 110 and 128 are the first of three consist assigned to moving freight in and out of Clare Yard. There are four trains that operate daily. The westbound trains operate from Clare to Carlisle and Marien to Clare. The eastbound trains go in the opposite directions. The trains terminating at Clare park their engines at Clare's small engine facility until called up for the next outbound trip.

The 110 is an old timer on the Western Ohio. This engines is exConrail, and was one of the first engines painted in the Western Ohio's yellow and black scheme. It still sports the block "W" "O" initials instead of the name spelled out on the long hood. 128 came off the Canadian National. This wide cab unit is a distincitve look for this older unit.

The second of the consist dedicated to the daily manifest trains is a pair of SD40-2s. These engines are a little more powerful than the Geeps on the first consist, and are more than capable of handling this workload.

Daily Manifest
The third consist that works the daily daily manifest trains is a bit of a mismatch of engines. The Western Ohio was very big on secondhand four axel EMP power, owning a wide variety of Geeps. The 124 is part of that inventory. The 3871 on the otherhand was purchased at a time when the Western Ohio was short on power. Purchased from Conrail, the engine was pressed into service without a repaint or even renumbering. Once in service, the engine has been a steady performer the railroad can't take out of service long enough to paint.

Grain Extra
Another mismatch of power, Western Ohio engines 118 and 715 are assigned to the Grain Extra. This train alternates between eastbound and westbound each day. Along the line, this train switches the four grain elevators along the Peavine, as well as leaving cars on the Hillsboro Brance for the Hillsboro Grain Elevator.

Unit Auto Racks
The automotive industry is the lifeblood of the Western Ohio and this train is one of the most important on the WO schedule. 803 and 830 are two of the newer engines on the Western Ohio roster, and are assigned to running autoracks between Portsmouth and Detroit.

Unit Coal
Coal is still a hot commodity on the Peavine. While niether mined or consumed on the Peavine, coal can be seen travelling in both directions on a daily basis. Rocky mountain coal travel east towards Harpers Point with Union Pacific engine number 926 on point. Alleghany Coal travels to the midwest with two Norfolk Southern engines in the lead. This heavy train is the only train powered by three massive SD70ACes.

CET Loveland / Lunken Turn
By modeling the Western Ohio, the Cincinnati Eastern that is currently operating the line has been displaced. To be fair, the Western Ohio was here first (I decided to model the a free lanced railroad many years ago). But I don't want to dismiss the CET. So I model the CET operating between Loveland and Eastern Avenue on the ex-Pennsylvania line.

One of the most interesting and exciting prototype jobs on the real Peavine is the gravel runs between the Hanson gravel pit east of Peebles and the Roundbottom Road unloading facility. This train recreates that run, with loads of gravel coming west at the end of an operating session, unloading over night and then returning east the next morning.
