In a league where points seemed to be hard to come by, the Gritz Blitz Falcons hit a seam of points, thanks in no small part to Player of the Week Derrick Henry. Henry scored 32 to lead the Falcons to a 141-84 victory over Rimskis Raiders. Joe Burrow added 22 and Nico Collins had 21. The win gets the Falcons back to 2-2, and based on points, that is good enough to lead the Paul Brown division. It is the first time this year the BMFFL has had the highest scoring team from the two leagues.
With Player of the Week out of the way in the first game, we can move on to the best game of the week. And this week, we had a bunch of candidates. I usually cutoff best game of the week at ten points, and four of the other five games on the schedule in week four fit this criteria. So I’ll go bottom up.
The Ohio State Buckeyes earned a six point margin of victory over the Balony Boiz 83-77. Jalen Hurts was game MVP with 20. The Buckeyes are now 2-2, but unlike the Falcons who lead their division with the same mark, the poor Buckeyes are technically in fourth place in the Lombardi division.
Steel City FooBall beat the Willow Run Flyers 88-86 for a two point margin of victory. CJ Stroud was the top scorer for FooBall. Like everybody else I’ve mentioned so far, FooBall is 2-2. There’s a theme forming me thinks.
Now we get into some truly close games. The Old England Patriots dumped Florida SeaBreeze 90-89. The actual margin was 1.1 points. I can’t believe Sea Breeze lost on a weekend when a Hurricane was tearing up the middle eastern part of the country. The Patriots got this win thanks in part to the San Fransisco defense, who led all scorers with 23.

And finally, the closest game of the week was played between the Digital Scammers and Prestige Worldwide. The Scammers squeak out a 108.0-107.4 victory. Sam Darnold had thirty points for the Scammers, outdueling Worldwides Lamar Jackson who had 29. These two teams are both 3-1 right now, each in first place. There 3-1 records are unique in the league right now.
The last game of the week was not as close. It saw Grande Fantasmas drown the Cincinnati Eagles 91-53. Jordon Mason was the high water mark with 22 points.
Why the water references for Grande Fantasmas you may ask? Fantasmas owner Jay Robins lives in Asheville, which if you are not aware was obliterated by the hurricane that moved inland late last week. I pinged with Jay yesterday. He is OK, but may not have power restored till the end of the week, and no idea when they will have clean water. So keep Jay in your thoughts this week as they battle thru a tough situation. On a positive note, I did reach out to Jay’s boss who assured me that despite the loss of power there’s been no noticeable decline in Jay’s production or efficiency.
PARITY OR MEDIOCRITY
I didn’t realize this until I was well into writing the article. There are a lot of teams at 2-2. As a matter of fact, nine of the twelve teams are 2-2 after four weeks. The entire Paul Brown division is 2-2. The only two teams above .500 are the Scammers and Prestige Worldwide. Florida SeaBreeze is the one team that seems out of place at 0-4. So no matter how bad you think your team is, you are right in the hunt if you are at 2-2.
SURVIVOR
The Eagles made figuring out who was off Survivor Island easy this week. They posted a score thirty points below the next worse team. A quick check to see if they had already been eliminated confirmed they are this teams Survivor loser.
MOM DOMINATES AGAIN
While they didn’t earn overall Team of the Week this week, Momball was the top scoring team in the EWFFL. This week they beat Car Ramrod 109-97. I have to point out, 109 points is a rather modest top score. I swear it seems like points are down in general this year. Regardless, Momball wins with the help of Player of the Week Derrick Henry’s 32 and Nico Collins 21. Momball is now 3-1 on the season.
There were not as many close games in the EWFFL, but there were a couple. The best game saw Shakedown eke out a 100.2-99.8, .4 points margin of victory. A blast from the past, the Red Rifle Andy Dalton himself was the game MVP with 21. I honestly did not know he was still in the league, but good for him.
The other nail biter had a happy ending… well, for Happy at least. Happy beat the Beercats 95-93 for a two point win. CJ Stroud was the best player for Happy. The win keeps the 2-2 Happy within striking distance of the first place Beercats who are 3-1.
Down the Drain got back to .500 with a 106-96 win over the Titans King-less Court. In this game, Lamar Jackson and Dandre Smith had 29 and 22 respectively. That was needed to overcome the 30 point game from Sam Darnold.
This is not an error, but Error 404: Team Not Found is 3-1 after beating the Secret Scammers 103-78. Dak Prescott earned 20 points for the Error. This was a divisional matchup in the Landry division, and leaves Error 404 in First place.
Also in the ‘don’t look now’ category, Transformation Worldwilde is 3-1. They have to be getting close to matching (or passing) their win total from last year. But just improving is the goal for this team. They are now 3-1 tie for first in the Noll division
SURVIVOR
Its no secret that if you team sucks and doesn’t score a lot of points, you are not going to spend a lit of time on Survivor Island. And this week, the Secret Scammers are booted off the island.
BYE WEEKS
Bye weeks are like taxes, we all hate ‘em but we all gotta deal with ‘em. Bye weeks start this weekend and will continue thru the end of the regular season. Ugh.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Easy pickens this week. It really doesn’t get easier than this. Two teams, both 3-1. Cubes right next to each other. And while in normal weeks they might be friends, this week will be pure hatred.
Momball heads north to Middletown to take on Error 404: Team Not Found is a showdown of first place teams. MomBall is the top scoring team in the EWFFL. They’ve been the EWFFL TOW the last two weeks. And their best player really hasn’t hit his stride yet. Patrick Mahomes is the quarterback for Momball. Derrick Henry and Nico Collins make a formidable backfield. This will be a touch matchup for Error 404.
Error 404 is 3-1, but there has to be a little smoke and mirrors involved. Maybe a computer virus that is causing the score to be miscalculated. Because Error 404 is like mid pack in points scored. Dak Prescott is decent, but he’s no Patrick Mahomes. And Alvan Kamara is OK, but he’s no Derric Henry.
Now it is not my place as league commish to choose sides, but I think Momball has a decided advantage headed into this game.
