ESPN.com lets you set autodraft options in case you cannot make the draft. Your humble commissioner STRONGLY recommends you take ten minutes to do this as a back up to drafting in person. People have missed the draft for a variety of reasons over the years…

- legitimate schedule conflict. We all have real lives, it happens.
- forgot about the draft.
- put the draft on their calendar on the wrong day.

If you miss the draft, ESPN.com will draft the best available player every round. What ends up happening is you end up with 1 quarterback very late in the draft (so not a good one) and way more than you need running backs and wide receivers.

There are two parts to setting up autodraft. First, set your roster limits. You can tell ESPN how many players you want at each position. Second, what player do you want picked in each round.

WHERE DO I EDIT DRAFT STRATEGY

To get to the place to edit your draft strategy, follow the instructions below.
1. Go to "My Team" in our league on ESPN.
2. Next to the draft countdown clock, click the "Edit Draft Settings" button.
3. Click on "Autopick Strategy" at the top. Note, the "PreDraft Rankings" tab lets you change the auto pick order of players.
4. Set your Roster Limits (instructions below).
5. Set your Pick Per Round (instructions below).

SET ROSTER LIMITS

First think to do is set your roster limits. You can set the minimum and maximum number of players you want at each position. Below, I have shared what I set mine to.
QB…..MIN 2.....MAX 3 You need at least 2 QBs
RB…..MIN 5…..MAX 7 RBs, most important position. Stock up. You cannot find them in season
WR…..MIN 5…..MAX 7 Important, not on level with RBs. Much more fluid, you can find them in season
TE…..MIN 1…..MAX 1 There are a few great ones, the rest are all the same
K…..MIN 1…..MAX 1 Good kicker can be helpful, but are hit and miss from week to week
D…..MIN 1…..MAX 1 Pick late. You never know which defense will be good

SET PICK PER POSITION

As far as what player you pick per round, I'll just share my settings and let you adjust as you see fit.

SET ROSTER LIMITS

Round 1…..Running Back Most important position in the first round
Round 2…..Wide Receiver
Round 3…..Running Back
Round 4…..Wide Receiver I alternate RB and WR for the first four rounds
Round 5…..Quarterback Kinda want a QB fairly early
Round 6…..Running Back
Round 7…..Wide Receiver
Round 8…..Quarterback
Round 9…..Tight End
Round 10-14…..Best Available At this point, I have starters for the important positions, now just get best available
Round 15…..Kicker Because I have to
Round 16…..Defense ditto
