BASKETBALL BRACKET CHALLENGE FINAL
STANDINGS

The 2018 Basketball Bracket Challenge got off to a wild start when number one
overall seed Virginia was bounced in the first round. Nearly half of the
sheets in the pool lost their South Region champion right out of the gate.
The first weekend closed with a rash of final four picks getting eliminated,
including all the local teams. Bob Caccimelio led the first two rounds, but his
champion Xavier was gone.
The top spot traded hands in the Sweet 16. Aaron Spencer slipped ahead of
Bob by three points. At the halfway point of the tournament, very few
sheets could get more than two final four teams. Aaron remained on top
after the Elite Eight. But he was vulnerable. There was a pack of
sheets within striking distance who had Villanova as the champion.
Aaron kept the lead heading into the Championship Game. But Eric Eslinger
swept past Aaron when Villanova captured the title. Three more swept past Aaron,
the last, Bill Freeland, taking the last paying position by tie-breaker.
Mark Douyere finished second for the second straight year. And Dewey
Gripshover finished third.
